‘Being Human’ is a great name for a philanthropic organisation. That is because it communicates the very obvious yet forgotten message that to give and to share our blessings is what make us a true human being. And to show us the way, there are many successful businessmen and celebrities who are setting a great example by sharing their possessions and their time generously.
Can you think of any such role models?
Do names like Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Michael Dell, Mark Zuckerberg,Azim Premji, Shiv Nadar, Ratan Tata, and Salman Khan come to mind?
You may believe you are too young to think about this, but you are not! There are so many children your age or younger than you who are missing out their childhood. They can use your generosity.
Moreover, as Indians, giving should come naturally to us. Giving and sharing has always been an integral part of our customs and traditions since ancient times.
Our ethos teach us about ‘karma’ which essentially means ‘what goes around comes around’. One must give to get and the more you give, the more you will get. And that is not the only reason... Give for the joy of giving. You will feel wonderful after you share.
Dictionary meaning:
Share[ʃɛː/] - give a portion of (something) to another or others
Philanthropy[fɪˈlanθrəpi/] - the desire to promote the welfare of others, expressed especially by the generous donation of money to good causes.
Giving also helps you control your own wants. You realise how there are so many less privileged than you who are happy with so little. You will learn to be happy with a lot less.
You can start small by sharing your things with your siblings or friends or you can be more generous and share your blessings/savings with those who are less privileged.
Pause to ponder: What can you give? Your toys? Books? Clothes? Money? Time? Everything counts!

“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” ~ Winston Churchill
“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, what are you doing for others.” ~ Martin Luther King Jr.
The idiom ‘charity begins at home’ tells us to be generous towards our family before helping others.

Note: If you have already printed it while understanding needs and wants, please use the same sheet and add the things you will share.
